Get Involved

There are many ways to offer support to Behind Closed Doors. Our organisation relies on the generosity and support of our partners, funders, stakeholders, supporters, Volunteers and also those people who simply feel compelled to help in some way. Without them, we would not be able to continue our important work.

Volunteering

Behind Closed Doors recognises the tremendous value that volunteers bring to the organisation and in supporting the people we work with. Volunteers are an essential link in offering an end-to-end support service to people who are, or have, experienced domestic abuse.

We do our best to provide a placement that meets the needs of Behind Closed Doors but that also suits the needs of the Volunteer. To achieve this we do ask that Volunteers commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week in one day, for a minimum of 6 months after completing training and a period of mentoring.

Volunteers in the Prevention and Recovery Service (PARS) focus on delivering emotional and low-level practical support direct to people who are assessed as low/medium risk:

Prevention:  to reduce the risk within an on-going relationship, to reduce the risk of victims returning to an abusive relationship and/or entering another

Recovery: helping clients to understand what has happened and how; why they are not to blame; re-building self-confidence and self-esteem; focusing on healthy relationships and learning warning signs for the future; moving on to more positive and healthy lives
