Inclusion and Diversity

Domestic abuse impacts all communities. Being visible, trusted and accessible to everyone who needs our help is a real challenge for us and one that we’re constantly striving to achieve.

We set up an Inclusion & Diversity Group who have been collaborating with human rights and equalities charity Brap to help us understand our needs and put together an action plan.

The whole staff team with our trustees spent a day with Brap learning how we can develop our anti-racist practice both as an employer and with people who have experienced domestic abuse. We learned a lot and it made our heads and hearts hurt.  We know improving our inclusion and diversity isn’t just about learning exercises, we need to take action and visibility is everything.

We’ve set up two service user groups whose experiences are helping us to develop our help and support. We recently recruited two men into the team and they have been meeting with LGBT and refugee & migrant groups to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the support available.
